 Women’s Weekend: June 2010

Advent Lutheran Church, Boca Raton

How to be a responsible Via de Cristo sponsor

SPONSORSHIP: Are you an active member of your congregation and actively walking your 4th Day? Are you in group reunion and following your Rule of Life? Are you prepared to make the commitment necessary to be a sponsor? The real responsibility comes after the 3-day weekend is over. Will you follow up for one year to insure that your new cursillista is in Group Reunion, attends Ultreyas, and obtains Spiritual Direction? If you can answer yes, then you are ready to be a responsible sponsor. CONSULT your candidate's Pastor BEFORE TALKING to the candidate about being a candidate for Via de Cristo. Know your candidate both personally and spiritually. Prospective candidates need to be baptized, emotionally and spiritually mature, and be physically able to withstand the demands of the weekend.

SIGN UP the candidate. If married make an effort to get the husband and wife to fill out applications at the same time. CONTACT THE PASTOR for the approval signature. MAIL the completed application to Gold Coast Via de Cristo, 300 E. Yamato Road, Boca Raton, FL. 33431.

When your CANDIDATE HAS BEEN CALLED for a weekend, please CONTACT THE PASTOR AND PARISH REP to let them know the candidate will be attending the up-coming weekend.  PREPARE your candidates for the weekend by telling them something about it -that they will listen to 14 talks by clergy and lay persons, that there will be meditations, small group discussion, along with sharing, singing, etc. Do not give out misinformation.  The COST of the weekend is $80 (this information is in both the sponsor and candidate confirming letter). If the financial obligation is a burden to your candidate, please help them try to obtain possible scholarship funds from their church cursillistas.  PICK UP AND BRING your candidate to the send-off by 7 pm. COLLECT letters from spouse, children, and other family members and bring them to the send-off if at all possible, but no later than Saturday evening.

DURING THE WEEKEND: WRITE a letter to your candidate. PRAY for your candidate and spend some time in the PRAYER PALANCA CHAPEL. SERVE at meal times. Be present for the SERENADE Attend the CLAUSURA.

Following the closing, provide transportation home for the new cursillista. This will also be the opportunity to give them any gifts, flowers, balloons, or other large items that cannot he put in the weekend mailbox.  VISIT or CALL your candidate on Monday or during the week and talk about the weekend. INVITE the new cursillista to go with you to the next available Ultreya.  REUNION GROUP and SPIRITUAL DIRECTION: As a sponsor, the most important responsibilities you have are to get your new cursillista into a reunion group, and to help find a spiritual director. If the new cursillista has not formed a group from the weekend and there is no group available, it is up to you to group with your candidate until a group is found. Equally important is spiritual direction. The relationship between sponsor and candidate, and then sponsor and new cursillista, is a spiritual one. This spiritual relationship insuring group reunion and spiritual direction is vital to the spiritual growth of the new cursillista.

BABYSITTING GUIDELINES

 1.        The site coordinator is (and has been) responsible for obtaining three babysitters (one adult and two responsible teenagers) EACH sitter will be paid $15 from Via de Cristo funds. Please DO NOT ASSUME that your teenager will be involved in the babysitting by “showing up”. We don’t want them to be disappointed if they are not asked to participate in the babysitting procedure.

2.        If more than six (6) children per babysitter are presented for care, parents NOT SERENADING will be asked to assist in the giving of childcare.

3.        A “Babysitting Donation” can has always been placed near the door of the childcare room. This past men’s weekend, 36 children were dropped off for sitting care (some being infants) and there was only  $25 dollars in the donation can. Therefore, we will now be requesting a donation of $3 per child for babysitting services at Serenades, Closing Ceremonies and Ultreyas.

Please remember that the babysitting provided is a ministry, a courtesy provided by your Secretariat and we ask your cooperation in enforcing our policies. Thank you for helping us in improving our weekend experiences and enhancing the safety of our childcare.
